About the Collection

The City Engineer’s Plat Book, 1671-1951 is an oversize book containing plats of Charleston properties. It was assembled by the office of the City Surveyor in the City Engineer’s Office. All plats are of properties within the City of Charleston, ranging from individual parcels, or pieces of parcels, to whole neighborhoods. While there is no apparent order to the plats in the book themselves, an index to the plat book is available by contacting the Charleston Archive at Charleston County Public Library.

This collection comprises a portion of the Historic Records of the City of Charleston now located at Charleston County Public Library. These materials were put on a permanent loan to the Charleston County Public Library by the City of Charleston Records Management Division in 2002.
