About the Collection

The Town of Sullivan’s Island Historic Meeting Minutes consists of three bound volumes of handwritten and typed minutes dating from 1895 – 1936, and loose papers from the same time period. The loose papers mostly consist of documents and notes, and were stored in the pages of Volume 3 (1919 – 1936).

The collection begins when the island was the Town of Moultrieville and continue through to its transition to  Township of Sullivan’s Island. The meeting minutes include discussions of ordinances, elections, and other municipal operation. They also discuss the preemption of property on the island, the prohibition of alcohol sales on the island, and the loss of Moultrieville’s town charter.
