This recollection is written in regards to Phillips' imprisonment, first in Washington D.C. and later on Ship Island, M.S., during the Civil War. This recollection also includes Eugenia's comments on the beginnings of the Civil War, her treatment by the Union troops, traveling with her family, and her experience at the Union prison and detention center on Ship Island, M.S.

The A.B Flagg Medical Day Book, 1792-1853, is the medical account of Doctor Arthur Belin Flagg. This book includes descriptions of medical treatments and a list of fees for medical services for plantation families and slaves. The details includes the names of the plantation owners and the names of the enslaved peoples. Also recorded in this account book is Dr. Flagg's visit to the military location Camp Magill in Waccamaw, South Carolina to treat wounded soldiers during the Civil War in 1861.The last section of the book was written starting from the back of the book resulting in upside down pages. The names of the enslaved people are listed as:

The Robert F.W Allston Account Book, 1860-1861, documents payments, a recipe to help cure rabies, stocks for Nightingale Hall and Chicora Wood Plantations and the names, births and deaths of enslaved people. The book also includes diary entries for when Robert Allston visited Manassas, Virginia at the Battle of Bull Run during the Civil War, recording conversations he had about the battle, the atmosphere of the army camps and the death of General Barnard E. Bee.

Phillips' memoir includes early biographical information, his education, the beginnings and development of his career as a lawyer and eventually as a congressman, the Tariff Acts of 1828, the Missouri Compromise, the beginnings of the Civil War, and his wife's imprisonment in Washington D.C. and on Ship Island. The memoir also relates various experiences had by the Phillips family throughout the Civil War.

In this six-page, handwritten letter, Warren Hubert Moise outlines the important events in the early life of his father, Edwin Warren Moise (b. 1810). Topics include his marriage to Priscilla Lopez and their move from Charleston, South Carolina to Woodville, Mississippi, the birth of three children and Priscilla’s death, his move to New Orleans, and his change of profession from medicine to the law. W. H. Moise writes about his father’s appointment as Attorney General of Louisiana, and then as a Confederate Judge in 1861 by Confederate President Jefferson Davis. He describes E. W. Moise's return to New Orleans at the end of the Civil War and foreshadows the family’s destitution and dispersion after his parents’ deaths.
In this eight-page, handwritten letter to his nephew Edwin Warren Moise (b. 1889), Warren Hubert Moise describes a collection of family documents, letters, and books that he refers to in later letters as "the papers." Hubert had seen these as a young man but reports they were lost years before.
