This is the first page of a letter written to "William" from Elias L. Rivers on April 29, 1895, in order to "preserve" a memory. In the letter, Rivers recalls the meeting of 14 men who were from James Island and that had served in the Civil War at "William's" home on March 27, 1895. Rivers lists the men's names and where they were living at the time. The men at the meeting included: Constant H. Rivers, E.L. Rivers, Jenkins Holmes, J.F. Lawton, J.H. Freer, W.G. Hinson, Dr. Robert Lebby, Dr. W.B. Seabrook, Dr. b.M. Lebby, W.A. Clark, W.B. Minott, Edward T. Legare, R.E. Mellichamp, Chas. H. Rivers. Mr. Rivers recalls that one man had not been to James Island since 1854 and was shocked at all of the changes he encountered upon arrival in 1895. The bottom of this page states that the group had a dinner and were joined by Mr. J.T. Dill, Robert Bee, and S.L. Hinson.

This is a Sandy Island plantation journal written inside of The South Carolina and Georgia Almanac for the year 1792. The plantation journal documents the planting of crops (rice, corns, and potatoes), the maintenance of ditches and drains, slave records, complications with the hiring of an overseer, livestock, and business relations with Laurel Hill Plantation.
Excerpts from minutes of "the regular monthly meeting held in their hall July 4, 1887" concern the election of J. Powell Reid as treasurer of the Mechanics' Union No. 1. The Mechnic's Union No. 1 was a trade union organized in Charelston in 1869.

The letter goes on to discuss the weather, the destruction of crops, a visit from Swinton, Caroline and Mr. Laurens and weddings in Charleston.

This document is a labor agreement between J. W. Sprague and freedmen and signed by other numerous individuals. The reverse side of the document includes the notation "Agreement Hands."
The Florida Herald on June 10th, 1835, discusses laws of the United States, extracts from letters and other newspapers, the gold mines of the south, a section titled "Confession of a Pirate," word of a cholera outbreak from The Natchez Courier, the death of Reverend Parker Adams from consumption, and advertisements for enslaved persons to work at the saw mill. Page three of the newspaper includes a posting titled "Committed to Jail" where two runaway enslaved persons were arrested. The posting describes the physical characteristics of these men and that they identified themselves as Chambers and William but now call themselves John Smith and Tom Brown.
