The Horlbeck Cash and Estimate Book, 1839-1849, was kept by members of the Horlbeck building and architectural business. The first half of the book is a cash book listing expenses and income. Expenses were for laborers described as white and "negroe", lime, bricks and "negro cloth." The second half of the book lists projected costs, lists of supplies, descriptions and occasional floor plans and drawings for structures to be built, repaired, and remodeled. Buildings include a dwelling house for a "Colored Man" and an Engine House.

Buildings worked on include the jail, St. Stephen's Chapel, the Fire Master's Department, and the Poor House. The descriptions include types of materials used and the number of Black and White employees working. Black employees consist of enslaved and freed persons.
The Robert F. W. Allston Journal is an 1864 journal which contains handwritten copies of two letters written by Governor Robert Francis Withers Allston. The letters are addressed to "Mr. Morse" discussing the selling of products and to "Mr. Yates" discussing money. The rest of the journal is filled with blank pages.
The Stoney Account Book, 1837-1838, and Plantation Daybook, 1852 is a bound volume kept by the Stoney family, possibly John Stafford Stoney, in which the first half of the book documents payments for shipping, freights, wharfage and commissions from GM Thompson, Wade Hampton II, William Cunningham, Robert E. Russell, Mary Hampton, Horace Osborne & Co., John Preston, and Nesbit Manufacturing Co. The second half of the book was written by a plantation overseer at Medway Plantation in which he documents the tasks performed by enslaved people and the slaves who missed work due to sickness. The Paul De St. Julien Ravenel Estate Book, 1829-1841 is an estate account book kept by Henry Ravenel for the estate of Paul D. Ravenel with pages on money received, spent or payments paid, including payments for the hiring of enslaved people. The last few pages of the book are lists of slaves, referenced by first name, and the number of sheets given out.
The Kiawah Stock Account Book, 1877-1882, is kept by a member of the Vanderhorst Family for their estate Kiawah Plantation on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Entries include information on the numbers of livestock sold, list of expenses and marketing and account statements for the overseer Quash Stevens.
The Stoney Family Plantation Day Book, 1872 is a bound book kept by a member of the Stoney family recording payrolls, cash accounts and general accounts for laborers, formerly slaves and now freed persons, at Medway Plantation. The second half of the book is comprised of journal entries recording weather, work completed by laborers, conditions of the plantation crops, specifically rice, and visits from family and friends.
Volume contains a chronological record (1855-1856) of the number of bushels, tolls, vessels on which the rice arrived, names of individuals (plantation owners), where the rice was stored (floor and "binn") and the marks used, the names of factors, the vessels on which rice was shipped, and other data. Mill accounts contain expenses for rice, drayage, coopers, carpenters, watchman, Negroes (hire), labor, salaries of various individuals, repairs, baskets and brooms, rice, cords of wood, poles, barrels, mill stones, wharf building, cart license, a butcher's bill, horses, insurance on rice, discount on a note, sales of rice, ironwork, sweep chimney, blacksmith work, and other expenses. Income is from cash received at mill, from various individuals for rice flour and rice, from freight and tolls on rice, from notes, and from other items. The Cannonsborough Mills, begun in 1825 by former Governor Thomas Bennett, included twenty-two pestles driven by steam and fourteen pestles run by tide power. Its property fronted Ashley River a third of a mile. In 1847 Bennett deeded the property to his son-in-law, Jonathan Lucas, III. The larger of the Cannonsborough mills burnt in February of 1860.

The Thomas Wright Bacot Jr. Estate Book is written by Robert Dewar Bacot between 1851-1854, following the death of Thomas W. Bacot in 1851. Acting as administrator for the estate, the book includes notices for demands against the estate, appraisals for items and belongings, including an enslaved woman named Nancy, and a written statement regarding the distribution of Thomas Bacot's shares to other members of the Bacot family.

The Direleton Plantation Memorandum Book was kept by James Ritchie Sparkman beginning in the 1850s; changes in handwriting indicate additional authors and additional uses into the 1900s. The book contains slave records. Records includes slave births, slave deaths, purchases of slaves, sales of slaves, family seperation, measurements for clothing, distribution of blankets, and labor tasks. The book also contains lists of first and last names of agricultural workers after the American Civil War and figures, likely wages paid. There are account records kept for purposes of the Internal Revenue Services, Confederate taxes and bonds, personal and agricultural work purchases, and financial transactions with B.M. Grier, Eliza S. Heriot, Dr. R.S. Heriot, A.G. Heriot (with signed receipts), M.E. Heriot (with signed receipts), and G.A. Thorne. There are transactions with other plantations recorded including Cornhill Plantation, Northampton Plantation, and Birdfield Plantation. There is information on livestock, wines removed from the plantation, and rice sales.
The Arthur B. Flagg Journal and Commonplace Book is comprised of information relating to rice and other agricultural farming on the Brookgreen Plantation post Civil War. The journal also serves as a record of the laborers working on the property as well as medical and financial data. A cash book for Robert F.W. Allston for the years 1823-1843. The book includes account transactions conducted by Allston including payment of overseer wages, the hiring out of enslaved people, transportation, taxes, governesses, nurses, crops, sundries, and cloth distributed to slaves. This book also includes accounts between Allston and other individuals including the Estate of Charlotte A. Allston (primarily for the purchases of blankets, shoes, and cloth for enslaved people) and an account with Mary P. Jones. The last several pages of the book contain cash ledgers. Allston explicitly notes accounting related to Matanza Plantation, later known as Chicora Wood. Other account records do not explicitly state plantation sites.
The John Ball Plantation Account Book, 1812-1834, is an indexed account book kept by overseers at various plantations owned by the Ball family. Overseers named are John Cox, Arthur McFarland, Samuel Lynes, Alexander McKnight, Britton Bunch, John Dickson, Thomas Fincklea, James Coward, and John Page. Of particular interest are two different accounts, one with William Deas, referred to as a "Mulatto" and the other "Free Nancy," a free black woman at Limerick Plantation who was buying and trading rice and sugar.

The James Simons Account Book, 1838-1854, contains financial information for Mrs. Harleston Simons in account with James Simons. The Day Book for Henry Ravenel Junior, Wood Ville, 1806-1822, is a book divided into two sections. The first section lists the names of slaves and their decedents, lists of purchased slaves with name, name of previous owner, date and price, and slaves who received shoes. The second half, which appears upside down, records family events, visits to the Pineville theatre, traveling, engagements, marriages, deaths, and attendance at the Jockey Club. Also included are entries about a hunting party to capture or kill fugitive slaves, the promise of emancipation for two female "mulatto" child slaves, and a trial over the body of a slave woman who was punished to death. This book contains a second use written upside-down and back to front.
The Account Book of Enslaved Persons Belonging to Henry and Rene Ravenel, 1771-1867 records the enslaved children born under the ownership of Henry or Rene Ravenel. The Weehaw Plantation Journal, 1855-1861, is a journal of Weehaw Plantation, near Georgetown regarding birth, death, duties, vaccinations, tasks and allowances of enslaved people, plantation expenses, names of overseers, listings of rice crops, clothing for enslaved people, cattle, yearly accounts, tools, usage of fields, vegetable garden production, medicines, house groceries and contracts. The journal is also used as a partial diary regarding the plantation with comments on Abraham Lincoln's inaugural address, secession of South Carolina, the days leading up to the attack on Fort Sumpter, the day of the attack on Fort Sumpter, lists of enslaved persons winter and summer clothes and mentions of recruiting for Hampton's Legion for the Confederate States of America. Loose papers found within the journal contain names of enslaved persons and notes on the plantation.
The Account Book of Enslaved Persons Bequeathed to Mrs. Elizabeth B. Lowndes and Charles C. Pinckney, 1841-1857, is a bound volume composed of accounts for individual enslaved persons given by Mrs. T.M. Pinckney from Eldorado Plantation and from Mrs. E. B Lowndes' late husband. Each account lists the name of the enslaved person and slaveholder. Numerous entries contain notations on date of death or family members of that enslaved person.
The Fairfield Plantation Book, 1775-1794, is a clothing and blanketing book containing the names of enslaved persons (1773), children born at the plantation (1775), a list of clothes, blankets and tools given out to enslaved persons (1773-1775), cattle and hog inventory, lists of births and deaths of enslaved persons (1792-1797), and lists of enslaved families at Fairfield and Wappoo Plantations (1773-1797). The book contains a second use written back to front and upside down.
The Henry Ravenel Crop Book, 1809-1832 is a book divided into two separate sections that also includes loose notes found within the book. The first section records the names and ages of the enslaved children born on the plantation and the names of their parents. The second half of the book, which appears upside down as the book was flipped for a new section, records the weather conditions, crop farming and the tasks completed by the slaves. The loose papers record the names of the enslaved people, slaves divided and allotted to Henry, Thomas, Rene and William Ravenel, the number of male and female slaves and a note to sell a family of slaves with their names and ages.

The Newton Plantation Slave Lists and Blanket Distribution Book, 1854-1861, is a bound book recording the names of enslaved persons at Newton Plantation (thought to be in Georgetown County, South Carolina). The lists include information concerning births, deaths, marriages, and purchasers of slaves. The blanket list includes names of the slaves, and the years blankets were distributed.
The Frederick Fraser Receipt Book, 1793-1816, is a bound journal consisting of receipts for Frederick Fraser written by numerous merchants, family members and acquaintances Receipts include payments made for purchases, taxes, bonds, store accounts, pew rentals at church, cotton bagging, and the sales and purchases of enslaved men and women.

Ravenel. Other entries refer to stocks and bonds, a store on East Bay Street in Charleston, South Carolina, a house and lot on the Battery in Charleston as well as slaves mentioned by name. The names of the slaves are listed as: Alick, David and William.
The Lydia Waring Estate Book contains a copy of Lydia Jane Ball Waring's will, copies of inventories and appraisals of goods and chattel at Comingtee Plantation and at 21 East Bay Street, Charleston, South Carolina. Accounts also include those of John B. Waring, Ann Simons Waring, and Francis Malbone Waring with their guardians Keating Simons Ball and Ann Deas. The accounts contain appraisements of slaves, their names and the amount obtained from the wages of slaves and expenses incurred by slaves.
The Daniel Huger Receipt Book, 1812-1819, is a bound book documenting the receipts by various employees of Daniel Huger and Charleston merchants he frequented. Receipts include the payments made to buyers of enslaved people, money sent for subscriptions to newspapers and to the Charleston Library Society, the American Revolution Society, and churches. Other receipts include money for advertisements and political campaigns, employee wages, tuition money for his daughters and funeral expenses and memorials following the death of his son, Daniel Huger Jr.

Receipts include the payments made to buyers of enslaved people, money sent for subscriptions to newspapers and to the Charleston Library Society and the American Revolution Society. Other receipts include dividends to the State Bank and employee wages.
The Charles Pinckney Account Book, 1753, is an account book that includes rental rolls, listings of slaves, lists of titles, acreage allotments and deeds of real estate. Many of the slaves referenced in the account book are listed by first name, their slave family as well as their age.

The Isaac Hayne Journal contains information on births, ages, deaths, marriages, memorandums, information on breeding horses, ages of enslaved men, women and children and bills of scantling. The entries on ages contain an alphabetical listing of individuals and their birth dates and entries on slaves include births, deaths and occasional notes concerning the sale of slaves as well as runaway slaves. The journal also includes notes on plantation management such as the issuing of blankets and the work of overseers, plowmen, housekeepers, and others.
The Robert F.W. Allston Account Book, 1855-1864, records financial accounts for crops such as rice and corn as well as the names of enslaved people on the plantation.
Volume Two in the Cote Bas and Mepkin Plantations Collection is a Miller's Interleaved Almanac for 1886 repurposed as a journal by Peter Gourdin. Entries pertain to rice planting, livestock and social activities. Other information includes newspaper clippings on various topics such as General Order No. 1, January 1, 1866, issued by Federal authorities to govern the employment of freedmen as plantation laborers as well as other rights and liberties given to freedmen.
The Gourdin Plantation Journal owned by Peter Gourdin of Cote Bas Plantation is a journal written in 1865 filled with mostly blank pages but when applicable, contains lists of slaves and later freedmen, women and children on the plantation documenting their names, ages, deaths and relationships from the 1840s to 1860s. The Allston-Pringle Plantation Account Book is a bound volume recorded by Adele Petigru Allston and later her daughter, Elizabeth Waities Allston Pringle, for White House, Chicora Wood, and Greenfield Plantation. The book records the financial accounts for the male and female laborers on the properties and documents their expenses and wages in 1867. The end pages of the book, appearing upside down, were used by Elizabeth W.A. Pringle to record daily entries of the tasks performed by laborers in 1913-1914. Also found inside the volume is a loose sheet of paper listing Adele P. Allston's expenses in 1873.

The Household Account Book of John Ball Sr., 1805-1817, is an account of expenses for household services and needs of the family and servants such as childcare, allowances, the services of a wet nurse, and a pulpit subscription to the Circular Church.
The John Ball Memo Book, 1850-1851, is a bound volume listing crops at Hyde Park Plantation and the Villa as well as miscellaneous accounts for corking a dock, grass for cows, seeds for the garden, blue denim cloth, tobacco, ticking, shoes, molasses, tea and other household items. Also included is a list of men defaulting on militia duty and patrol service for January, March and April of 1851.
The Travel Expenses Book, 1806-1810, is a bound volume kept by John Ball listing expenses for his travels to New York, Boston, Cambridge, Montreal, Quebec, Philadelphia, Bowling Green, Washington, Alexandria, Trenton, and other locations. Expenses are kept for food, clothing, lodging, and hiring servants. Notes indicate Mr. Ball's rating for service and fare at hotels and taverns in various locations.
