The Report of Survey of Charleston Orphan House, prepared by the Child Welfare League of America, is a detailed survey of the Charleston Orphan House from 1948. The Orphan House was established in 1790, and its building on Calhoun Street opened in 1794. The survey provides information on the institution's history, management, leadership, building, and childcare, and includes recommendations for improvement. These suggestions from the Child Welfare League were based on emerging ideas about childcare and social work. The survey was published before the relocation of the orphanage to Oak Grove Plantation in 1951 and the building's destruction in 1956.
