About the Collection
The James N. Cochran Papers, 1838-1887, collection contains a loose paper belonging to the Cochran family. A South Carolina attorney, James N. Cochran was the son of John Cochran (d. 1855) and practiced in Abbeville, S.C. and later in Cokesbury and Hodges, S.C. He married Celestia Douglass White, widow of Leonard J. White. His sister was Mary Ann Cochran McNary.
The collection consists of an agreement for the hire of an enslaved woman named Ann and providing her with supplies.
