This collection contains administrative records taken from the unbound Presbyterian church session books between 1816-1901 on Edisto Island, South Carolina, revealing information on the churches’ history and membership prior to, during and following the American Civil War. Recorded by various secretaries, these unbound books include minutes of church meetings, lists of church members including slaves and freedmen, registers of births, baptisms, marriages and when applicable, mentions of deaths.
