About the Collection
The Anna Alston Albums comprise an autograph album and a photograph album kept by Anna Elizabeth Alston (1860-1944), an African American music teacher and domestic worker, from approximately 1880 through 1921. The autograph album contains signatures and accompanying messages from friends and neighbors in Charleston, S.C., Georgetown, S.C., and Chelsea, Ma. The photograph album contains 72 photographs, predominantly of African Americans, taken in South Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Rhode Island, Florida, and Massachusetts.
