- The Roslin Plantation journal, kept by Archibald Simpson Johnston, documented enslaved people and slave labor on an antebellum plantation for two years (1813-1815). The journal documents correspondence, equipment, planting and harvesting, livestock, slaves and supplies related to the plantation. There are detailed descriptions of tasks and number of enslaved people working each task, particularly tasks regarding growing cotton and rice and maintainining those fields.

- The Medical Account Book of Dr. George Paddon Bond Hasell contains medical entries on visits and treatments for Georgetown County plantation families and their slaves between 1812-1816. The book is written in both English and Latin and references enslaved people by their first name, the name of their slave owner or by using the letter "N" before their name.
6. Robert F.W. Allston Cashbook 1823-1843

- A cash book for Robert F.W. Allston for the years 1823-1843. The book includes account transactions conducted by Allston including payment of overseer wages, the hiring out of enslaved people, transportation, taxes, governesses, nurses, crops, sundries, and cloth distributed to slaves. This book also includes accounts between Allston and other individuals including the Estate of Charlotte A. Allston (primarily for the purchases of blankets, shoes, and cloth for enslaved people) and an account with Mary P. Jones. The last several pages of the book contain cash ledgers. Allston explicitly notes accounting related to Matanza Plantation, later known as Chicora Wood. Other account records do not explicitly state plantation sites.

- The Andrew Hasell Medical Account Book between the years 1830-1842 is a book listing Dr. Andrew Hasell?s visitations to ill or injured patients on various plantations throughout Georgetown County, South Carolina. His book documents the diseases, injuries, surgical procedures and deaths of patients that include enslaved men, women, and children. Some pages are written in partial latin.
8. Gibbs Plantation Register

- Description:
- This is the plantation register by Mathurin Guerin Gibbs (1788-1849) for Rice Hope Plantation (January 1, 1824 to December 1844) and Jericho Plantation (December 1844 to 1875). Gibbs, a lawyer before becoming a planter, used the first several pages of the manuscript dating January 1824 to May 1829 for summarizing legal cases. The plantation register primarily documents daily labor activities on the plantation including cultivation and harvesting of staple crops such as corn, cotton (Sea Island Cotton and Santee black seed cotton), rice and potatoes, livestock, and building fences. Gibbes also writes about the use and management of slave labor, the movement of enslaved people between the plantation and Charleston, and selling and purchasing of enslaved people. Slave names are included in portions of the register. Gibbs notes throughout the register the struggles he encounters as a planter including being unable to pay the mortgage of Rice Hope Plantation and the property going into foreclosure. Most of the entries at the end of the register are regarding slave births, slave deaths and distribution of blankets. Gibbs died in 1849 and the management of the plantation was carried out by his son.

- The Dr. Andrew Hasell Day Book, 1840-1850, records the names of patients, which plantation they live on, illnesses or injuries, and monetary charges for medical treatments by Dr. Andrew Hasell. Patients consist of many Georgetown County families and their enslaved persons. Medical treatments include amputations, tooth extractions, diagnoses of rheumatic diseases and treatment of bone fractures.

- The Good Hope Plantation Account Book is a bound volume containg accounts of plantation finances and slaves at Good Hope Plantation which was inherited by Joseph Dulles from Ann Heatley Reid Lovell. Entries include the delivery of slaves to Augustus Marshall with the names and ages of each slave and other notations concerning to which states they were sent and occasionally dates of death. Also included are entries listing plantation stock, crops, and other goods, including the names of buyers and prices paid. Cash accounts recorded in the book include amounts paid for slaves and numerous goods. Other entries includes proceeds from plantation stock sales. Loose papers contain information about the amount of cotton produced, names of overseers and the names of slaves, their parents, births and death dates, ages and diseases. - The Richmond Plantation Journal, 1859-1860 was kept by Anthony Weston, Benjamin Huger's overseer. Entries concern activities on the rice plantation primarily related to rice cultivation (plowing, manuring, cleaning ditches, threshing and winnowing.) Also mentioned are corn, peas, potatoes, livestocks, the weather and lists of goods and prices. The journal also includes entries relating to slave allowances as well as violence towards slaves including flogging and imprisonment. - This album consists of photographs taken at Pinehurst Tea Plantation located in Summerville, SC and owned by Professor Charles Upham Shepard Senior. The photographs depict the property, multiple tea gardens, tea processing, schools and other buildings located on the property, and tea plantation workers (including the African-American students who attended Pinehurst School).
15. Dirleton Plantation Memorandum Book

- The Direleton Plantation Memorandum Book was kept by James Ritchie Sparkman beginning in the 1850s; changes in handwriting indicate additional authors and additional uses into the 1900s. The book contains slave records. Records includes slave births, slave deaths, purchases of slaves, sales of slaves, family seperation, measurements for clothing, distribution of blankets, and labor tasks. The book also contains lists of first and last names of agricultural workers after the American Civil War and figures, likely wages paid. There are account records kept for purposes of the Internal Revenue Services, Confederate taxes and bonds, personal and agricultural work purchases, and financial transactions with B.M. Grier, Eliza S. Heriot, Dr. R.S. Heriot, A.G. Heriot (with signed receipts), M.E. Heriot (with signed receipts), and G.A. Thorne. There are transactions with other plantations recorded including Cornhill Plantation, Northampton Plantation, and Birdfield Plantation. There is information on livestock, wines removed from the plantation, and rice sales.
