The first half of the book records payments and bonds paid on behalf of J.W. Allston's estate by executor A.W. Campbell. The second half of the book records payments and bonds paid on behalf of the estate by executor Robert F.W. Allston. Payments include those for the hiring and purchasing of enslaved persons.
The Thomas Wright Bacot Jr. Estate Book is written by Robert Dewar Bacot between 1851-1854, following the death of Thomas W. Bacot in 1851. Acting as administrator for the estate, the book includes notices for demands against the estate, appraisals for items and belongings, including an enslaved woman named Nancy, and a written statement regarding the distribution of Thomas Bacot's shares to other members of the Bacot family.

Topics include his marriage to Priscilla Lopez and their move from Charleston, South Carolina to Woodville, Mississippi, the birth of three children and Priscilla’s death, his move to New Orleans, and his change of profession from medicine to the law. W. H. Moise writes about his father’s appointment as Attorney General of Louisiana, and then as a Confederate Judge in 1861 by Confederate President Jefferson Davis. He describes E. W. Moise's return to New Orleans at the end of the Civil War and foreshadows the family’s destitution and dispersion after his parents’ deaths.

Plowden Weston's Plantation Journal is part of the Weston family papers collection. Plowden Weston came to the colony of South Carolina from Warwickshire, England in 1757, and he bought Laurel Hill Plantation and adjoining lands in 1775. This journal contains lists of items shipped to Waccamaw Plantations (Wandow, Laurel Hill, Holly Hill, Waccamaw) and accounts of crops (rice, cotton) transported and sold in various Lowcountry area wharves, 1802-1820. Items shipped to plantations include tools, textiles, seeds, sundries, medicines, etc. Journal includes other ephemera such as correspondences, bank deposits, financial accounts, formulas, instructions. Items distributed to enslaved people often appear with lists of their names.
This is a Sandy Island plantation journal written inside of The South Carolina and Georgia Almanac for the year 1792. The plantation journal documents the planting of crops (rice, corns, and potatoes), the maintenance of ditches and drains, slave records, complications with the hiring of an overseer, livestock, and business relations with Laurel Hill Plantation.
Medical record book of Richard Love Johnson (1841-1913). Johnson documents the Assistant Surgeon's cases during the Civil War, cases of pregnant newly freed women during Reconstruction, and his work on a farm in South Carolina.
The Mouzon Plat Book surveys lands held by various individuals and families in Craven County [now in parts of Berkeley, Charleston, Georgetown, and Williamsburg counties], Colleton County and Berkeley County in South Carolina. Plats are drawn in pencil and ink. Book includes an index at the beginning and at the end are two pages of accounts and also lands to be resurveyed for the estate of Henry Mouzon Jr.
The journal of George Chicken, written during the Yamasee War, documents a march across South Carolina to various Cherokee settlements and treaty negotiations for peace and alliances against the Creek tribes from January 1715 to February 1716. The journal also includes the correspondence of James Alford and Captain James Woodward. Part of the way through the journal, Chicken flipped and reversed his use of the book causing pages to be out of date order.
The Roslin Plantation journal, kept by Archibald Simpson Johnston, documented enslaved people and slave labor on an antebellum plantation for two years (1813-1815). The journal documents correspondence, equipment, planting and harvesting, livestock, slaves and supplies related to the plantation. There are detailed descriptions of tasks and number of enslaved people working each task, particularly tasks regarding growing cotton and rice and maintainining those fields.
The Rose Hill Time Book is a record of the tasks completed on the property and the figures related to pay for working these tasks starting in the month of May and ending in the month of July of 1878. Also included in this account are the names of the laborers on site. This location was once known as "Rose Hill Plantation" prior to the Civil War and this Time Book represents the agricultural labor of freedmen post Civil War during the era of Reconstruction. Description:
This is the plantation register by Mathurin Guerin Gibbs (1788-1849) for Rice Hope Plantation (January 1, 1824 to December 1844) and Jericho Plantation (December 1844 to 1875). Gibbs, a lawyer before becoming a planter, used the first several pages of the manuscript dating January 1824 to May 1829 for summarizing legal cases. The plantation register primarily documents daily labor activities on the plantation including cultivation and harvesting of staple crops such as corn, cotton (Sea Island Cotton and Santee black seed cotton), rice and potatoes, livestock, and building fences. Gibbes also writes about the use and management of slave labor, the movement of enslaved people between the plantation and Charleston, and selling and purchasing of enslaved people. Slave names are included in portions of the register. Gibbs notes throughout the register the struggles he encounters as a planter including being unable to pay the mortgage of Rice Hope Plantation and the property going into foreclosure. Most of the entries at the end of the register are regarding slave births, slave deaths and distribution of blankets. Gibbs died in 1849 and the management of the plantation was carried out by his son.
