The Charles Manigault Letter Book, 1846-1848 is a bound volume kept by Charles I. Manigault while living in Paris, France with his family between 1846-1848. The General Work and Allowance List was kept in the year 1840 by the Glover family and records the enslaved people at Camp, West Bank, Forlorn Hope and Snug-it-is Plantations. Information includes the names of the male, female and child slaves, tasks completed by the slaves and their food allowances.
The Kiawah Plantation Book, 1854-1861, is kept by a member of the Vanderhorst Family for their estate Kiawah Plantation on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. The book includes the names of enslaved men, women and children, mentions of slave allowances, blankets given out to slaves, payments to the overseer and information related to crops and livestock.
The Dr. Francis P. Porcher Prescription Book 1856-1859 records the patients, including enslaved people, of Dr. Francis Peyre Porcher. The descriptions state the names of the patients, the slave and their owner, the types of medicines that are being prescribed and specific ingredients for those medicines.
The Theodore Louis Gourdin Estate Record consists of accounts and inventories for Murray's Ferry, Red Clay, and other Williamsburg County Plantations written by estate executor Theodore Gourdin. The volume includes appraisements, inventories, and financial accounts for these plantations as well as records the names of the enslaved people on the properties.
The John Ravenel Estate Book contains an inventory and appraisement of the estate of John Ravenel, deceased. Found in the volume are the accounts of John Ravenel with Alfred F. Ravenel, executor, accounts of St. Julien Ravenel, Alfred Ford Ravenel, born 1822, Alfred Ford Ravenel, born 1857, R.N. Gourdin, M.A. Pringle, Mrs. Frances E.H. Frost, Miss E.P. Huger, and Francis G. Ravenel. Other entries refer to stocks and bonds, a store on East Bay Street in Charleston, South Carolina, a house and lot on the Battery in Charleston as well as slaves mentioned by name. The names of the slaves are listed as: Alick, David and William.
The Lydia Waring Estate Book contains a copy of Lydia Jane Ball Waring's will, copies of inventories and appraisals of goods and chattel at Comingtee Plantation and at 21 East Bay Street, Charleston, South Carolina. Accounts also include those of John B. Waring, Ann Simons Waring, and Francis Malbone Waring with their guardians Keating Simons Ball and Ann Deas. The accounts contain appraisements of slaves, their names and the amount obtained from the wages of slaves and expenses incurred by slaves.
The Edisto Island Presbyterian Church Register is an unbound book recorded between 1837-1901. The register contains minutes from church sessions, baptism and marriage records, church memberships and church controversies with references to enslaved men and women by name and the accusations against them. Also included is the constitution of the Edisto Union Church, which was formed by Africans Americans, formerly enslaved, who took over the Edisto Island Presbyterian Church following the Civil War.
